How are ya doin'???

Hey!!! How're ya doin'????

That's the first line you hear from almost EVERYONE in Houston.... no little HIs, no simple Hellos, but a HOW ARE YOU DOING..... to which i have to think up a new way of saying "I'm Fine" everytime!! Sometime's I'm doing great, sometimes I'm excellent, sometimes I'm good... well.... you catch my drift. This is one of the most obvious things you notice about people around here and it's way, waaaaaay different from back home when people don't even give a hoot about your life!!

But anyway, yea... how've you been doing? Hahah... it's been some time since i last updated my blog and that's coz we've been busy having fun!! (and working sometimes of coz....)

Just 2 weeks ago, we went for our first Rodeo!! It's a Texan thing whereby loads and loads of people gather at Reliant Stadium to watch cowboys... yes REAL cowboys (and cowgirls.. woohoo!) take on bulls, ride horses, throw lassoes just like in the movies, and all that jazz! Interesting stuff we saw at the Rodeo were:

1) The Barrel Race - Whereby a girl rides a horse at high speed and guides it around 3 different barrels at different locations before running back. Timing is taken and the fastest wins. Believe it or not the fastest on the night was a 62-yr-old lady!!

2) Bull Riding - As you see on TV, brave men will try to stay on bulls (who aren't too happy that their testicles are being electrocuted btw) for more than 8 seconds, after which judges will give points based on style, skill, and the ability to NOT get injured.

3) Calf Scramble - A bunch of young high schoolers in the field are unleashed on a herd of cattle, with a $1,000 reward for anyone who manages to hold on to one of these hapless things. Trust me the high schoolers were the only animals on the field during this event.

There's many many more but i guess these were the more interesting ones. Do log on to the Houston Rodeo Website for more details and let me know if you wanna have a look at some of the videos!

"Wee Xi and Eddie... having fun with the food!!"

"Reliant Stadium. The biggest one i've ever been to...."

After the Rodeo, i managed to watch my SECOND concert in Houston.... and this time, it was MAROON 5!! Yup I'm sure you've all heard of em coz they were always on the radio back in Singapore!

"Great lighting... notice there are NO maroon colours though... haha"

Anyway, the concert was a decent one... although they did have a bit of trouble getting the audience to interact, except for this one moment when the guitarist had a rush of blood to the head and decided to run a big round around the stadium (and like i said, it's BIG) while STILL playing his guitar, drawing huge cheers from everyone. It wasn't quite as power a performance as my Coldplay the other night, but they were pretty decent... and of coz we all sang along with She Will Be Loved and This Love.

"Crooning away...."

It was quite an interesting experience and it was fun for us too.. knowing that this Rodeo thing is an annual event.... i think we'll be prepared in our cowboy and cowgirl attire for next year in fact... almost EVERYONE was dressed in that during the show!

"Singapore cowgirls!!"

Alrighty then that's all for now... for those of you who wanna check out my Houston pics for the first 3 months, click on this link!

Come on Tim, saying “How are you doing?” doesn’t mean that the Americans really wanna know about your life. The fact is they don’t really wanna know how you really are. Seriously, they don’t give a hoot even if you are not having a good time. It’s just their way of greeting one another. Sometimes, along the corridor, you will see someone whom you don’t even know or never even seen before in your entire life asking, “How are you doing?” But as they asked, they also walked away without letting you finish your sentence. Do they really care? I don’t think so.

But then, at least the people in Houston bother to greet you. I bet, if we were to be in New York, no one will ever ask “How are you?” as they really don’t have time for such trivialities.

Hmm…. I sense that we don’t see eye to eye in a lot of matters. Are you sure I am the ONE?!! Wahahahah….
