Makan Sutra Part II

Here are more of my food escapades:

Prata with rice???

Yeah, we had prata with rice. Having just pratas for dinner is simply not filling for Tim. Pratas are supposed to be eaten during breakfast or supper, not dinner. So I cooked tau gay with hei bi hiam too.

Di Yi Jia’s prata with bawang is simply sedap! It is fast to cook and good to eat. We dipped the prata in this Prima Taste seafood curry sauce which we cooked with beef instead of seafood. Taste just like what you get at Jalan Kayu or have we already forgotten how real pratas should taste like?

An even simpler meal

We had this simple meal for lunch one day. But it was one of the best meals ever. I finally cooked my precious ikan bilis which I brought all the way from Singapore. We also found fish cakes in Houston! And these are extremely expensive fish cakes but they were on sale when we bought them. When we wanted to buy more the following week, it was sold out! Can you believe it?

Ya, I know it is kinda weird that we ate hot porridge and drank iced honey at the same time. Oh well, Tim needs a cold drink to go with every meal.

Shrimp scampi linguini with lychee drink

Found the recipe for the shrimp scampi linguini online. It is so easy to prepare. We don’t have to spend a bomb to eat this at an Italian restaurant anymore!

Fried rice paradise!

The ingredients for this fried rice are leftovers from the shrimp scampi linguini. Tim just told his mum over the phone that it doesn't taste as nice as the one she makes. I won't cook his share the next time! Muahahaha...

White wine recipes

Had so much white wine left from the linguini so I did a search online for recipes that require the use of white wine. So these are what I came up with: Broccoli with garlic and white wine and chicken with mushroom.

Singapore curry

What would be nice to have after a hard day of work? Singapore curry! Well, we didn’t actually work on the day we had curry because it was a Saturday. But we helped Neo and Zing moved house. So it is considered working too, right? This is from Prima Taste too. It tastes so authentic. Of course, the chef is good too lar…

Spinach with century egg and salted egg topped with ikan bilis

Got the idea to cook this from Crystal Jade. I remembered having it a couple of times back in Singapore. So I tried to copy. Of course, crystal jade didn’t put ikan bilis in their version. Looks good ya? It tastes good too!

Mee Sua

It has been a while since I last had mee sua. So last Saturday, I made this delicious bowl of mee sua from leftover ingredients. Even Tim said it was good although he wouldn’t want me to make it too often. But at least it is still better than having ku gua mee fen tang with carrots. He is simply not a mee sua or bee hoon person. And he definitely doesn’t like bittergourd and carrots. So eating ku gua mee fen tang is simply a torture. All those jie meis out there, please remember that Tim doesn’t take these two vege!

These are my food escapades for now. Maybe I will try to make bak gua this weekend! The recipe seems easy enough although it may not taste exactly like what is sold at Lim Chee Guan or Bee Cheng Hiang. I shall see how…..
